| Year 7 Parental Survey |
Thank you to all parents who responded to the Year 7 Parent Survey which helped us to monitor the quality of our Year 7 induction process. We were very happy with the positive results and comments that were made. Many parents simply said they had no comments to make as they were ‘happy with everything’. Thank you. Those parents who did make constructive comments for development can be assured that they are being discussed and actioned by the school. In summary:
100% said their children were happy at school 96.5% were happy with their school choice 93% said that they found the induction process useful 93% said that homework was set regularly 100% said that they read the school newsletter
Again, thank you for taking the time to tell us how you think the school can improve and supporting us in making the judgements about the work we do. |

| Langley Car Boot Sale |
The Langley PTA Car Boot Sale was a resounding success last year. This year promises to be even better with more extensive marketing to get even more buyers through the gates. Beat the credit crunch by recycling those goods you simply don’t use or need any more! This is a fantastic opportunity for you to sell those items that you haven’t used for years, make a tidy sum in the process – and help raise funds for the school! It will take place on Saturday 25th April 2009 from 9 am till 12.30 pm.
Car Boot Pitches will be available for £8.00 each and there will also be a table top sale for pupils inside the school. Table Top pitches are available to pupils at £5.00. Pitches can be set up from 8.30am and gates will officially open at 9am. Tea, coffee, soft drinks, bacon rolls and sausage sandwiches will be available in school.
Tickets for the Car Boot pitches are available from the School Box Office, (cheques payable to ‘Langley PTA’ please) and Table Top pitches can pay on the day.
Please help make this a great school event – even if you have nothing to sell - please come on the day, pick up some bargains and support your school. |

| Italian Music Day |
| On Tuesday 24th March Langley School entertained some 82 musical primary school children from schools as far afield as Meriden, St. Patrick’s and Mill Lodge, as well as ‘our’ local primary schools. With the help of Miss A Vize, Langley’s MFL Teacher and Ms Fi Cotton, Solihull Education Consultant, these primary children immersed themselves in Italian music and language for the day and presented a wonderful concert for parents in the Dovehouse Theatre at its conclusion. Congratulations to Miss Vize, MFL and Performing Arts teams for this successful collaboration! |

| Langley Rocks the Cavern, Liverpool - December 2008 |
Monday 1st December 2008 - a date that 400 pupils, mums, dads, grannies, friends, governors and teachers will never forget. Langley and invited guests Alderbrook School, Archbishop Grimshaw School, Castle Bromwich Junior and Solihull Music Service created a magical atmosphere in the world’s most famous club. Pupils and staff performed numerous Beatles classics in two amazing concerts. The response was fitting for such a venue. Everyone took full advantage of being in Europe’s City of Culture ‘08 and enjoyed the entire day. The schools are the first secondary colleges to take over the club for a day.
Be on the look out for DVDs and hundreds of photos coming soon.
Two comments go some way to explaining the impact of the day:- Parent: “You just couldn’t bottle what everyone has got out of today” Langley pupil: “It wasn’t just the best gig, it was the best night of my life”.

| Cambridge Professor visits Langley - October 2008 |
We were delighted to welcome back to his former school, Professor Roberto Cipolla on Friday 3rd October. Professor Cipolla was accompanied by John Cornwell, Director of the Science and Human Dimension project at Jesus College, Cambridge. They met with a range of students who (to my joy!) were able to answer the difficult mathematics problems posed by Professor Cipolla.
Both gentlemen were interested in the teaching of Mathematics and Science in the state sector and they enjoyed the conversations they had with our articulate and charming students. John Cornwell took careful notes and photographs were taken for a major article in a forthcoming Sunday Times magazine. We all look forward to reading this.
John Cornwell visits many schools as part of his current research project and commented on the standards of behaviour, self-presentation and academic prowess of our students.
Thank you to all who took part in this lovely event. You made me very proud! |
